The coat of arms of Mayenne is emblazoned: azure with a leopard in chief and two fleur-de-lys in point, all gold, bordered gules, wavy ermine pallet broaching over the whole.

They combine the coat of arms of the ancient province of Anjou (azure with three golden fleurs-de-lys with a sewn gules border) with the leopard of the Norman coat of arms and a wavy pal of the Breton coat of arms. The coat of arms thus recalls the border position of the department on the borders of Anjou, Normandy and Brittany. The waved pallet symbolizes the Mayenne river which crosses the department.
